The Red Devils are already preparing for life at Old Trafford without their experienced Serbia international next campaign after Vidic recently confirmed that he would be leaving the north west this summer after eight years at the Theatre of Dreams.

And it is understood that the man that new United head coach David Moyes is lining up to take over from Vidic at the heart of the Premier League giants’ back four this summer is Juve’s versatile Uruguay international Caceres.

Caceres, 26, has a contract with the Serie A champions that runs until June 30 2016, however, with the central defender having mainly found himself warming the substitutes’ bench in Turin under manager Antonio Conte so far in this campaign, United are understood to be confident of getting their man.

The South American defender has so far featured in just the ten matches in total for the Old Lady of Italian Football in all competitions, only five of which have come in Serie A, and with the player able to play right across the back four, Moyes sees him as being an ideal purchase.
