The Germany international has barely featured for the Bundesliga giants all campaign long through injury, with Gundogan having suffered a serious back problem while playing in a friendly for his country against Paraguay last August.

And as a result, the holding midfielder has appeared in the sum total of just three matches so far this season for Dortmund in all competitions, just one of which has come in the Bundesliga.

However, with a contract with his club that now only runs until June 2015, this summer very much represents decision time for the player, who must either decide to extend his stay with Dortmund, or seek out a new challenge in his career.

And with the likes of Premier League champions Manchester United, La Liga giants Real Madrid and Spanish champions FC Barcelona all having expressed an interest in the player of late, Gundogan will certainly not be short of offers this summer of he does decide to leave Dortmund, while his father and agent Irfan Gundogan has told German football magazine Kicker that “everything is open”.
