The 20-year-old has been considered by many as one of South America’s hottest prospects and had subsequently been linked with a whole host of top European sides in the process.

However, Racing Club president Victor Blanco has suggested that his young asset will be heading to the Etihad stadium at the end of the season.

“Every season Racing puts together a side to battle for the title, and then nothing happens,” Blanco admitted to Argentine newspaper El Dia.

“So we wanted to keep the side and reinforce it, but we have several highly coveted gems from the outside, such as Luciano Vietto, Rodrigo De Paul and Bruno Zuculini – who has already signed an agreement to leave in June to join Manchester City.”

And Vietto could be the next Racing player to head for the exit door after his agent admitted that there was significant interest in his clint from both Liverpool and Real Madrid.

Jorge Cyterszpiller told Radio La Red: “Luciano is playing at a very good level and that has made several teams get interested in him and some others keep an eye on him.

“Real Madrid and Liverpool have showed a serious interest, and we already know that exists since last year from Napoli. In addition to that, there are some requests from Germany.”
