The in-form La Liga side are ready to offer £8m and Costa in return for keeper Thibaut Courtois, an offer Jose Mourinho would surely gladly accept.

The Brazilian born striker is the player Jose Mourinho wants to lead his Blues attack so if he can land the player by offering custodian Courtois as a sweetener then it’s a deal he would surely sanction.

Courtois is into his third season on loan at the Vicente Calderon and is unlikely to unseat Petr Cech at Chelsea so a permanent move to the Spanish capital would probably interest the Belgian international.

The 21 year old only signed for Chelsea in 2011 but hasn’t played a single senior game for the West London club.

Costa has netted an impressive 21 goals in 24 La Liga fixtures this term, form that has helped propel Diego Simeone’s side to joint top and it’s therefore a little surprising that the Argentine manager would be willing to offload such a key member of his first team set-up.

Diego Costa has greatly benefited from the arrival of experienced Spaniard David Villa last summer, with the former Barcelona man forming an excellent partnership with the 25 year old ace.
