Gunners boss Arsene Wenger sees the 27 year old Turkish international as a viable alternative to first choice target Julian Draxler and the North London club are ready to meet Turan’s £34m release clause in order to land the stylish wide-man.

Turan has been a pivotal performer since moving to the Vicente Calderon back in August 2011, helping Diego Simeone’s side to a host of honours, including Europa League and Copa del Rey triumphs. Now Atletico Madrid are mounting a genuine La Liga title challenge and the Spanish side would be loathed to lose the former Galatasaray man, hence the need for Arsenal to meet the player’s release clause to have any chance of signing the flair player.

Turan has scored 17 goals and provided 24 assists in 114 appearances for Atletico Madrid.

Wenger will be keen to strengthen his options in the final third, not least as Lukas Podolski and Theo Walcott struggle to stay clear of injuries.

Arsenal have scouted Turan extensively and Wenger will hope to make the talented La Liga star his big name signing of the summer.
