The self-styled Special One had been planning on making a move for the Germany international in the recent January transfer window, only for that to be put on hold after Khedira sustained a serious season-ending knee injury while playing for his country in a friendly international against Italy last November.

However, despite the fact that the Portuguese has since splashed out a whopping £21m in order to sign Benfica’s defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic last month, it is believed that the west London club’s manager still wants to follow up his long-standing interest in Khedira come the end of this campaign.

But whether Mou will be able to persuade the La Liga giants to part company with the highly rated 26-year-old remains another matter entirely, especially given the fact that los Blancos are hardly well stocked for players in Khedira’s position at the Santiago Bernabeu at present.

Khedira hasa contract in the Spanish capital that only runs until June 30 2015.
