The 28 year old Ivory Coast international spent six seasons at Chelsea before heading for Ligue 1 18 months ago and has greatly enjoyed his time in France.

Kalou netted 16 goals in his first season at Lille and has already scored nine this term but could be tempted by a move back to the Premier League.

Martinez currently relies upon loaned in talents Romelu Lukaku, Gerard Deulofeu and Lacina Traore and knows he needs a permanent options up front and could pick up Kalou for a relatively small sum.

“Obviously we’re not sure about keeping the likes of Lukaku and Deulofeu beyond this season, so Roberto is keen to make permanent signings in that area,” an Everton source has stated.

“Kalou is a player the club have looked at. A few other Premier League teams were in for him in January and there’s a suggestion he might be available for the right price in the summer.”
