The Merseyside giants sent scout Neil Richardson to watch the fifth-round tie in which on-loan Reds defender Conor Coady was featuring in for the home side.

In fact, it was the Liverpool player’s equaliser which provided the springboard for a famous cup triumph for Nigel Clough’s Blades.

However, it is also understood that Richardson was running his eye over both Forest’s Jamaal Lascelles and United’s Harry Maguire as well ahead of Liverpool making a possible move for either, or both, players at the end of the season.

Lascelles has by all accounts also been attracting the attentions of Everton, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Newcastle United of late, while Maguire is said to have interested Chelsea, Manchester United and Southampton.

Meanwhile, this summer Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is also expected to try and recruit a new left back, second goalkeeper, wide man and a front man, as well as another midfielder.
