Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti has frozen World Cup winner Iker Casillas and has used Diego Lopez as his first choice custodian but now sees young Belgian Courtois as a summer target, no doubt impressed by the 21 year old’s displays at local rivals Atletico Madrid.

Courtois is into his third season on loan at the Vicente Calderon and no doubt boss Diego Simeone would like to sign the towering goalkeeper on a permanent basis but know such a move would cost a hefty sum.

Chelsea signed Courtois back in 2011 but as yet the former Racing Genk man hasn’t played a single senior game for the West London club and Jose Mourinho sees Petr Cech as his undisputed number one and could therefore choose to cash-in on Courtois.

The Blues are mindful of UEFA’s FFP (Financial Fair Play) guidelines and have an expansive squad and in much the same way as they elected to sell Juan Mata, Kevin de Bruyne and Michael Essien in January before signing Nemanja Matic, Kurt Zouma and Mohamed Salah it’s likely that further players could make way to help fund new additions.
