Robin Van Persie’s future at Manchester United was cast into even more doubt after the club removed him from a list of potential captain’s listed on their official website, according to the Metro.

A feature on Manutd.com, entitled ‘Reds’ leadership credentials’, which examines the leadership potential of a number of the club’s stars that could take over the captaincy from Nemanja Vidic when he departs for Italy at the end of the season.

Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher and even David De Gea were all put under the microscope, but the 30-year-old striker was left off despite captaining the Dutch national side on several occasions as well as his history of leading Arsenal whilst he was there.

And the snub will only serve to fuel the speculation when it comes to the player’s future with reports of Van Persie being unhappy with David Moyes’ management style.

Reports broke last week that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger met with the player’s agent to discuss a possible return to the north London outfit just two years after he originally left.
