Mourinho is looking to bring in a long term replacement for veteran defender Ashley Cole, who will be out of contract at the West London club this summer, and has identified 21 year old Kurzawa as a target.

Kurzawa has been at the Stade Louis II side since the age of 15 and has been a regular in Claudio Ranieri’s first team set-up this season, starting 23 of the club’s 25 Ligue 1 fixtures this season.

Cesar Azpilicueta has been used on the left of the Chelsea defence in recent months but can also be used on the right and Mourinho’s pursuit of a more youthful squad could well be the motivating factor in their pursuit of French Under 21 international Kurzawa.

As well as deciding as to whether Cole has a future at Chelsea Jose Mourinho will also have to decide whether to offer new deals to John Terry and Frank Lampard, both of whom are also out of contract at the end of the current campaign.
