The Old Trafford side have sent representatives to run the rule over the 22 year old, who is said to have a massive £35m release clause written into his contract.

The French international has been a rock in the heart of the Estádio do Dragão defence since arriving from Standard Liege back in 2011.

FC Porto have a successful transfer policy of bringing in up and coming talents before cashing in on their services further down the road and Mangala could be the latest player off the conveyor belt, following the likes of Hulk, Radamel Falcao, Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez.

Moyes will see Nemanja Vidic leave in the summer and Rio Ferdinand likely to retire so there is certainly a need to bring in able replacements.

Mangala has helped FC Porto to successive Primeira Liga titles and would probably jump at the chance of a fresh challenge at Man United, a move that would further cement his place in Didier Deschamps national team set-up.
