The 23-year-old had been linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer and his performances in Serie A this year have also led Paris Saint Germain and Tottenham Hotspur to make tentative enquiries into his availability, but United are still thought to be leading the way.

The Bosnian international assured Roma fans that he intended to stay at the club in January, despite stalling on a new contract and insisting that he “held the club in his heart”.

Pjanic has just under 18 months left on his current deal at the Stadio Olimpico, and the Scudetto contenders are not thought to be keen on losing him for nothing should he hold out on penning fresh terms.

And he has now insisted that he will wait until the end of the campaign before assessing his options.

“We’ll see. The championship continues, I always said that I was here, at the moment I am focusing on the end of the season and we will see with the club at the end of the season to find a solution as accurate as possible,” he said.
