Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal side host Bayern Munich for the second successive season and will hope their home encounter against the all conquering Bavarian side doesn’t follow the pattern of last year’s fixture.

Bayern Munich beat the North London side 3-1 at the Emirates exactly a year ago, before Arsenal defeated the Bundesliga side 2-0 at the Allianz Arena only to then go out on away goals.

Pep Guardiola has very much taken off where Jupp Heyneckes left off and has seen his side drop just four points in the Bundesliga this season and their only defeats in 35 matches across all competitions have come at the hands of Man City in a meaningless Champions League group stage and against Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup.

Arsenal’s form has fluctuated of late with Arsenal winning just one of their last four Premier League fixtures.

Jack Wilshere is expected to return to the Arsenal XI for the Champions League fixture though midfielder Mikel Arteta is suspended.

Franck Ribery and Xherdan Shaqiri are both out for Bayern Munich though midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is fit again after an ankle injury.
