This is rarely ever seen on a football field…

Last night during Barcelona’s Champions League victory over Manchester City, Gerard Pique proved his class by attempting to stop the referee booking City’s Alvaro Negredo.

Despite Pique’s protests, the referee still booked the powerful striker, but his Spanish compatriot cannot be blamed for making a meal of the challenge.

Pique’s actions only make Manuel Pellegrini’s post-match complaints seem all the more petulant…
