The Old Trafford side are ready to back their manager with a £200m transfer fund that Moyes will use to freshen up his ageing squad, though the level of target he will be able to lure to the club will be greatly dictated by whether Man United can manage to secure a Champions League berth for next term.

Man United’s defeat at Olympiakos last night took the club to a new low this term and led to speculation that the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange) had been informed of Moyes’s imminent sacking.

The summer will offer Moyes the chance to re-shuffle his Man United squad and to offload those who have been unable to string a consistent series of performances.

With veterans Ryan Giggs, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Nemanja Vidic all set to see their contracts exprire there will be room for youthful additions whilst the likes of Javier Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa, Tom Cleverley and a number of others playing for their Man United futures.

£200m would go some way to helping Moyes to improve his squad ahead of the 2014/15 campaign.
