The Toffees will lose loanee midfielder Gareth Barry in May as his season long spell at the club comes to an end, and though manager Roberto Martinez is keen on keeping hold of the veteran he faces stiff competition from elsewhere as the former Villa man has found himself in demand after a strong campaign.

Martinez is aware that he will have a space to fill in his engine room and sources close to the club claim that the Spaniard is keen on brining in the England under-21 international as his range of passing will fit in perfectly with the style of play he has implemented at Goodison Park this season.

The 18-year-old will also have plenty of time to develop and grow, which is a process that Martinez is eager to oversee.

However, Derby will look to hold off on entering any negotiations for him as they wait to see how their promotion campaign ends.
