The Brazilian midfielder seemingly ended his association with the Red Devils in January when he linked up with Fiorentina on loan for the remainder of the season and he is not expected back at Old Trafford once that loan expires.

The 25-year-old has made 179 appearances for United since joining the club in 2007 and has played his part in landing several titles for the club including the Premier League, Champions League and Capital One Cup.

However, after making just four appearances already for the Italian side, they have been impressed enough to want to make sure he stays with them beyond the summer by making him a permanent fixture within the side.

United are expected to bring in a number of new players over the summer as manager David Moyes looks to rejuvenate his side after a disappointing campaign.

Anderson is not thought to be in his plans and is said to be available for around £5m.
