Liverpool Prepare Stunning Summer Move For Experienced Chelsea Free Agent

Merseysiders are in desperate need of a new left back next season.

Premier League giants Liverpool are interested in signing out-of-favour Chelsea left-back Ashley Cole at the end of the season if the veteran Englishman fails to be offered a new contract by the west London club, according to reports in the Mail on Sunday.

There have been question marks surrounding the future of the experienced England international all campaign long after Cole surprisingly lost his place in the Blues’ first-team under returning head coach Jose Mourinho to Spanish right-back Cesar Azpilicueta.

As a result, the 33-year-old has spent the majority of this campaign largely warming the substitutes’ bench, with Cole now seemingly surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

And with the attacking full back’s current deal now set to run out on June 30 2014 and there still being no sign of his employers in west London offering him the one-year contract extension that he has been after, it looks as though Cole’s days as a Chelsea player are now increasingly numbered.

So much so that Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is understood to be poised to hand the defender an escape route to Anfield this summer.
