Barcelona To Challenge Manchester United For Coveted Germany International

Juventus are also interested in signing Dortmund’s Hummels.

Borussia Dortmund centre-back Mats Hummels has become hot property as both Barcelona and Juventus join Manchester United in the pursuit of the German, according to talkSPORT.

The 25-year-old is regarded as one of the best defenders in world football currently and it is therefore little wonder so many top sides are interested in securing his services.

United have been targeting Hummels for some time, as they look to overhaul the squad at Old Trafford following a disappointing first campaign in charge for manager David Moyes.

Club captain Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed a summer move to Inter Milan, whilst fellow veteran Rio Ferdinand is also expected to leave at the end of the current term.

It means the Red Devils will be in need of new central defenders and with the Bundesliga often touted as being similar to the Premier League, the Dortmund star could be the ideal acquisition.

However, with Barca and Juve both interested, tying up a deal for Hummels will be easier said then done – especially when both those clubs will be able to offer the Germany international Champions League football, something Moyes is unlikely to be able to do.

The Catalans are eyeing up the Dortmund man as a long-term replacement for skipper Carles Puyol, who has confirmed he will be leaving the Nou Camp at the end of the season.

Meanwhile La Bianconeri boss Antonio Conte is also a huge admirer of Hummels and believes he has the edge in the race to sign the defender.
