In January, Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil was voted the Germany national team’s player of the year for 2013, and finally got to celebrate the award before his country’s match against Chile yesterday.

The Gunners star beat Philipp Lahm and Thomas Mueller to the award with 30 percent of the fan vote, with his three goals and five assists in ten Germany games in 2013 a hugely impressive tally.

Last night against Chile, Ozil played a sensational flick pass to Mario Goetze (VIDEO), as well as providing the assist for the Borussia Dortmund man’s goal, but was booed by home fans upon coming off.

Given his form last season, he deserved more, and Ozil posted a picture to social network Instagram of the award he won alongside some fans:
