Moyes Turns To Liverpool Disaster To Save Manchester United

The Scot is targeting Parma’s Paletta.

Parma defender Gabriel Paletta may be a familiar name to Liverpool fans after spending a year there in 2006/07, but now Manchester United are targeting the 28-year-old, according to talkSPORT.

Reds fans may snigger at this as the Argentine-born star was a disaster whilst at Anfield and they’ll be hoping this is just yet another calamity in the David Moyes era at Old Trafford.

However, this isn’t such a mad move by the Scot as since leaving Merseyside Paletta has revitalised his career, first at Boca Juniors and now in Serie A, and is in fact part of the national squad of his adopted country.

At 28-years-old the former Argentina under-20 international made his full international bow for Italy on Wednesday night, in the 1-0 friendly loss to world champions Spain.

Moyes is looking for new defensive cover as club captain Nemanja Vidic has already confirmed a switch to Inter Milan at the end of the season, whilst Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand are expected to follow the Serb out of the door.

Therefore at least two new centre-backs are probably in order for United and Paletta is a realistic target that isn’t likely to break the bank – freeing up more money for marquee signings.

The only concern may be that the Italian failed to settle in England last time around, although a lot has happened in eight years and Moyes will be hoping the Parma ace has matured a lot since a failed £2m move to the Red Devils’ fierce rivals.
