Arsenal are reportedly in contact with AC Milan over their interest in midfielder Riccardo Montolivo according to the Daily Express.

The Italian interantional’s agent has confirmed Arsenal’s interest though the North London club are just one of three sides monitoring the experienced battler.

Agent Giovanni Branchini has revealed that Arsenal, Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund are all keen on Montolivo and went on to state;

“Milan have had a difficult season so far and I think I can say that Riccardo Montolivo has been one of the brightest notes.

“He became a fixture of the Rossoneri and was even given the captain’s armband as proof.

Montolivo moved to the San Siro from Fiorentina in the summer of 2012 but given that AC Milan are likely to fail to secure a Champions League berth for next term there is every chance that the 29 year old would be open to a fresh challenge.

One wonders if Arsenal need another central midfield option though Montolivo could perhaps be seen as a viable replacement for Mikel Arteta, with the Spaniard failing to impress this season.
