Inter Milan are ready to make a £20 million move for Chelsea striker Fernando Torres, according to the Daily Mail.

The Spanish striker moved to Stamford Bridge in January 2011 for an astonishing £50 million, a figure that remains the Blues transfer record, but it is safe to say that he has not lived up to the expectations surrounding him given that fee.

Torres has only managed to score 19 Premier League goals in 102 top flight appearances for the west London side, and though his trophy haul is impressive, his performances do not inspire confidence.

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was caught on camera last month stating his unhappiness with any of the three senior strikers in his squad – Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o – and it would be little surprise to see a clear out up front.

A move to the slower pace of Serie A may suit Torres too, and prolong his career beyond what it would in the the physically taxing and quick football of the Premier League.

He would battle Rodrigo Palacio, Mauro Icardi and Diego Milito for a place up front at San Siro.
