Arsenal are preparing a big money bid for Napoli playmaker Marek Hamsik according to Football Direct News.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is increasingly concerned about options he can call upon in his midfield, with both Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey suffering with injury concerns and Spaniard Mikel Arteta failing to retain a consistent level of form this term.

Therefore the Frenchman has earmarked a move for Slovakian attacking midfielder Hamsik, perhaps seeing the 26 year old as an alternative to January transfer window target Julian Draxler.

Hamsik only recently signed a new long term deal and Rafa Benitez would not be looking to sell the San Paolo fan favourite, who is into his seventh season at the Naples club.

The goal-scoring midfielder is one of the most consistent performers in Serie A having scored a healthy total of 76 goals in 290 appearances for Napoli since his move from Brescia back in the summer of 2007.

In recent seasons Napoli have sold Edinson Cavani and Ezequiel Lavezzi to PSG but have invested wisely in replacements and currently sit in third spot in Serie A.

One would imagine it would take a bid in excess of £35m to stand any chance of convincing Napoli to sell their club captain.
