Tottenham defender Jan Vertonghen is now a Barcelona target with the Daily Star claiming that the White Hart Lane man is considered a possible replacement for exit bound veteran Carles Puyol.

The 26 year old Belgian international is one of four Premier League stars said to be on the Nou Camp radar, with Chelsea’s David Luiz, Liverpool’s Daniel Agger and Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen, all interesting the La Liga side.

Vertonghen has been a massive success since moving to North London from Eredivisie giants Ajax but the club’s inability to secure a Champions League spot may well lead the adaptable defender to consider his options.

Tim Sherwood has openly admitted that Tottenham are some way off the top four race and the club’s 4-0 defeat at Chelsea has the club a mountain to climb this season.

Tottenham paid Ajax £12m for Vertonghen in July 2012 and the intelligent defender has made 78 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals in the process.

Vertonghen is sure to be tempted by the possibility of a move to the Nou Camp where he would line-up alongside Gerard Pique at the centre of the club’s back-line.
