Napoli loanee unlikely to return to Anfield.

Pepe Reina believes Liverpool’s decision to replace him with Simon Mignolet was for ‘economic reasons’ and has hinted that he will not return to Anfield.

The Spaniard joined Napoli on a season-long from Liverpool last summer and Reds boss Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the 31-year-old is unlikely to return to the club at the end of the season.

Reina is enjoying a decent campaign under Rafa Benitez at the San Paolo and believes the Serie A outfit will attempt to make his move permanent in the next transfer window.

“Nothing has been confirmed yet but I’ve got the feeling that Napoli are happy with me and I think they will talk to Liverpool to see what the situation is,” Reina is quoted as saying by Football Italia.

“It would be hard for me to go back to England.

“Liverpool have signed a 26-year-old goalkeeper, they have got rid of me for economic reasons apparently and it is difficult to see that situation changing.”

The Spain international has spent his entire career in Europe, coming through the ranks at Barcelona before joining Villareal and then Liverpool. But Reina says he would like to experience something new in the future and believes a move to America could be an option.

“I would like to try to do something different in the future,” Reina added.

“Maybe America or something like that.

“My idea is to have three or four good years somewhere and then after that go somewhere else for a couple more years.

“I think I have five or six years left.”
