United want to bring Davide Astori to Old Trafford.
Manchester United will turn to Cagliari’s Davide Astori in the hunt for a new centre half this summer.
The Premier League champions are in need of defensive reinforcements, with Nemanja Vidic set to join Inter Milan and Rio Ferdinand unlikely to be offered a new deal when his current contract expires in June.
According to respected Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, Astori is also wanted by Borussia Dortmund and a representative from the German club has watched the 27-year-old in action recently.
The Bundesliga giants have struggled to cope with long-term injuries to centre halves Neven Subotic and Mat Hummels this season and, like United, will seek a new centre half in the transfer window.
Astori, who has made 24 appearances for Cagliari in the Serie A this season, has seven caps for Italy and is likely to feature for the Azzurri at the World Cup in Brazil.
