Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen is keeping his cards close to his chest over what is in store for him over the summer by refusing to disclose on his plans, according to Sky Sports.

The Belgian international has found himself as the club’s third choice centre-back behind Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny this season, and has started just three Premier League games over the course of the campaign, prompting speculation that he may look to move on elsewhere over the summer.

He has just under 18 months left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, and though he is no longer the club’s first choice stopper manager Arsene Wenger has hinted that he is prepared to offer him fresh terms to stay put.

However, Vermaelen has sought to put talks on hold until the end of the season, telling reporters in is homeland: “It makes no sense to talk about it now.

“I have learned to make no long-term plans, so I won’t say anything.”

Several top European clubs have been on his trail with Manchester United, Napoli and Barcelona all taking a closer look since the beginning of the campaign.

But his agent, Kees Vos, echoed his sentiments on his situation, claiming: “We can’t say anything on that matter.”
