According to Dutch source Voetbal International, the AS Roma star will miss this summer’s tournament in Brazil after suffering torn knee ligaments in the 1-0 defeat at Napoli on Sunday.

It is unclear when Strootman will undergo surgery but the former PSV midfielder is expected to be out for nine months

The 24-year-old’s injury leaves plenty of questions for the Roma hierarchy and medical staff.

Strootman started the game at the San Paolo with a bandage on his knee after picking up an injury in the Netherlands’ friendly defeat to France midweek. He lasted just 11 minutes on Sunday and went down clutching his knee in agony with no other players around him.
