The 20-year-old defender currently plays for Bundesliga relegation battlers Freiburg but has been linked with the Premier League duo, with both in need of defensive reinforcements this summer.

Ginter revealed last week he is keen to move to ‘big’ club, telling SPORT1 (quotes via Daily Express): “I am unable to publicly discuss negotiations, this should remain behind closed doors. It’s definitely good to know great clubs are interested in my services. It’s an honour to see clubs like this being keen.

“It’s my goal to play for a big club one day in the future. This is no secret. It doesn’t need to be Bayern Munich. Still, to play for a big club is the dream of every football player.”

Ginter could still end up in the Premier League because the Borussia’s interest in dependent on Freiburg setting a reasonable asking price for the centre half, whose deal runs until 2017.

Towering Ginter can operate in the heart of defence or in midfield so it’s no surprise United are reportedly keen on the youngster. Captain Nemanja Vidic has already agreed to join Inter Milan at the end of the season, while veteran Rio Ferdinand is very unlikely to be offered a new deal when his current contract expires in the summer.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are likely to need a replacement for their captain and third choice centre half Thomas Vermaelen, who is likely to leave the Emirates Stadium in search of first team football at the end of the season.
