The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and is preparing for a new life elsewhere after spending the entirety of his career so far with the Catalan giants.

The club had been trying to convince him to stay put, but they have now seemingly given up on the Spanish international by striking a deal with Borussia Monchengladbach for youngster Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, who should join up with them later this summer.

Valdes has been heavily linked with a move to Monaco, but Valdes has sought to keep his options open with the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal all said to be in the running to bring him on board.

And Valdes has hinted that a move to England is a serious possibility.

“I’ve always identified with your football, the way the supporters live the game and the respect they show they players,” he said.

“It is one of the biggest leagues in the world, with the best clubs in the world and, without doubt, it’s a very good option for me.”
