Controversial AC Milan front man Mario Balotelli is to be sold by the Serie A giants at the end of the season after a limp display against Atletico de Madrid in the Uefa Champions League on Tuesday night, with the Italian set to return to the Premier League, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The mercurial Italy international turned in an underwhelming performance as the Rossoneri were thrashed 4-1 by Atleti in the second leg of their Uefa Champions League round-of-16 clash at the Vicente Calderon to exit Europe’s premier club competition 5-1 on aggregate.

And with Milan now set to be without any European football whatsoever next season with the club currently languishing in an unfamiliar midtable position in Serie A, the 23-year-old will now be sold this summer, despite having only arrived in Italy from Manchester City last year.

Meanwhile, former Milan head coach Arrigo Sacchi has criticised his ex-club, saying: “This is not a team. They do not defend collectively and this just highlights the limitations of every individual player.

“In attack they have many soloists, but the style of football has no logic to it.”
