The north London club are understood to have made the purchase of a new striker their number one priority for when the summer transfer window finally opens again on July 1.

It is no secret that the Gunners’ head coach Arsene Wenger scoured the market on the Continent during the recent January transfer window in search of a new forward to bring to the Emirates, with the experienced Frenchman fearful of the excessive workload being put on the shoulders of France international Olivier Giroud so far this campaign.

Giroud has led the line successfully for the entire campaign as a lone marksman, however, with the club’s Premier League title challenge having faded in recent weeks as the Frenchman has been rested, so the realisation has dawned on Wenger that the addition of another centre forward for next season is now an absolute must.

As a result, both Wenger and his team of European scouts are believed to have already held a meeting at the club’s London Colney training base in order to discuss this recruitment process, with he scouts having also been busy of late compiling dossiers on potential striking targets for the north Londoners to move for come the end of the season.

And while the usual names have all been up for debate, including the likes of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, Manchester City front man Edin Dzeko, Bayern Munich forward Mario Mandzukic and Atletico de Madrid marksman Diego Costa, Wenger is said to favour looking at more cheaper, and younger, alternatives in the market.

Consequently, the top-flight outfit have been keeping close tabs out on Juve’s former Italy Under-19 international Berardi, a player who has been making the headlines back in his homeland this season while out on loan with minnows Sassuolo, who the youngster joined on a season-long loan deal last September.

And in the intervening period, the 19-year-old has managed to record an impressive 12 goals and six assists in his 22 matches in all competitions for the Italian outfit , all of which have arrived in his 21 Serie A outings, including nettting all four goals in a 4-3 over giants AC Milan at home in January.
