Liverpool Could Face Battle With Real Madrid For Spanish Fullback Target

The Reds want to bring Alberto Moreno to Anfield…

Real Madrid are targeting a potential summer move for Spanish left-back Alberto Moreno, currently on the books with Sevilla in La Liga, talkSPORT reckons.

The 21-year-old has been a fixture in Sevilla’s side this term, making 20 starts in the top flight and establishing himself as one of their most consistently impressive performers.

He is technically excellent, but also provides a constant attacking outlet up the flank.

Liverpool also want to bring Moreno to Anfield to sort out a definite problem position at the club. Jose Enrique is perpetually injured, Aly Cissokho will leave at the end of his loan spell, and both Glen Johnson and Jon Flanagan are natural right-backs.

Although Liverpool want the talented fullback, with Sevilla apparently demanding close to £16m for his services, he could be more within Real Madrid’s transfer budget.

The super rich Spaniards though already have Marcelo, arguably the world’s best left-back, in their squad. If Moreno wanted to play regular first-team football, a move to Liverpool would seem to make much more sense, although the lure of the Bernabeu and a large salary often proves too much for Spanish players regardless.

Moreno has a £25m release clause, but Sevilla are ready to do business with Madrid for the reduced £16m sum, meaning Liverpool will have to turn their attention to different targets.
