Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is looking to strengthen his squad this summer ahead of a likely Champions League assault and has earmarked a move for experienced AC Milan battler Nigel de Jong according to Football Direct News.

The former Man City man is a regular in Clarence Seedorf’s San Siro side though AC Milan may be forced to offload a number of players in order to balance the books to cover the cost of not qualifying for the Champions League.

The Rossoneri sit in tenth spot in Serie A, some 20 points off the Champions League qualification places, and as such the 29 year old defensive midfielder may well be ready for a fresh challenge.

Anfield boss Rodgers is more than aware of de Jong’s proven Premier League record and the tigerish performer would offer the Liverpool manager another dimension in the middle of the park.

Currently Rodgers has to rely upon Lucas Leiva to provide the steel to protect his more creative talents but the Brazilian has missed much of the current campaign through injury.

Prior to his move to Milan de Jong spent four seasons at the Etihad Stadium, helping the club to FA Cup and Premier League triumphs.
