Englishman is desperate to go to this summer’s World Cup.

Tottenham Hotspur wide man Andros Townsend says that he is desperate to get back into the north London club’s first team in order to win a place in Roy Hodgson’s England squad for this summer’s Fifa World Cup in Brazil, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The England international played a key role in helping to get the Three Lions to South America in the first place with some eye-catching displays towards the end of the World Cup qualifying campaign last autumn.

However, since England sealed their safe passage to Rio this summer, the winger has been out of action through injury, with Townsend only returning for Tim Sherwood’s side in February.

But that has meant the 22-year-old having to warm the substitutes’ bench at White Hart Lane of late, including in last Saturday’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of arch-rivals Chelsea in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge.

As a result, the Englishman says: “I’ve been watching games and seeing everyone doing well but that just gives me an incentive to come back and to play even better than I was before.”
