The north London club have been heavily linked with making a sensational move to bring the prolific Netherlands international back to the Emirates this summer.

Van Persie left the Gunners in highly controversial fashion in August 2012 in a deal worth £24m after questioning the north Londoners’ ambition, with the club having failed to win any silverware since beating United to lift the FA Cup in 2005.

However, after recent reports that the 30-year-old had fallen out with new Red Devils manager David Moyes, with the striker also said to have become disillusioned with life at the Theatre of Dreams following the departure of previous boss Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of the previous campaign, it had been suggested that Van Persie would return to the capital this summer.

But despite Wenger initially refusing to comment on that speculation, the Frenchman is understood to have confirmed in private that he has no interest whatsoever in luring the Dutchman back to Arsenal.
