Real Madrid defender Alvaro Arbeloa has emerged as a surprise transfer target for Manchester United this summer, according to Football Direct News.

The Spanish international has previously spent two years in the Premier League with Liverpool before making the move to the Spanish capital, but has seen his future in Madrid come under some serious scrutiny.
Arbeloa has made just 16 appearances for new coach Carlo Ancelotti, and is being widely tipped to become one of a number of players earmarked to be moved on by the Italian tactician at the end of the season.
And sources in Spain are now hinting that the 31-year-old could be set to make a dramatic return to England with Manchester United.
The Red Devils are currently undergoing a major transformation under David Moyes, and he is said to be keen on rejuvenating his back line and has placed Arbeloa as one of his priorities.
Arbeloa, though, is currently sat on the sidelines with an injury and is not likely to make it into the Spanish squad to travel to Brazil for the World Cup this summer.
