Real Madrid Line Up Shock £15m Summer Move For Stoke City Keeper Asmir Begovic

Bosnian is set to replace the AC Milan-bound Diego Lopez in goal at the Santiago Bernabeu next season.

La Liga giants Real Madrid are preparing a shock £15m move for in-demand Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic at the end of the season, according to reports in the Daily Mirror.

The highly rated Bosnia and Herzegovina international is once again enjoying yet another fine campaign between the sticks for Mark Hughes’s side, so much so that the likes of both champions Manchester United and their city rivals Manchester City have both also been heavily linked with the shot stopper.

However, it is also understood that if the keeper were to leave the Britannia Stadium at the end of the campaign, then the 26-year-old would only move to a club that is prepared to offer him a guarantee of first-team football going forward, a stipulation that appears to there rule out both United and City.

And that could now clear the path for los Blancos to make their own move for Begovic, who has a contract with the Potters that runs until June 2016, with chairman Peter Coates saying recently: “I firmly believe Asmir has proven over the last few years that he’s the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.

“He’s ambitious and wants to play at as high level as he can. We would be reluctant to sell him because you want to keep your best players, but equally you are realistic about things.”
