The Latics have recently lost midfield duo Ben Watson and Chris McCann with long-term injuries until the end of the season and as a result, head coach Uwe Rosler is now desperate to find cover for his missing pair, especially with the club now in with a great chance of winning promotion back to the Premier League this season.

And in order to aid that promotion push, the former Manchester City striking legend wants to persuade his one-time club to loan him their unused England international.

The midfielder has been at Eastlands now since joining the mega-rich Premier League club from Everton in August 2012 on a five-year deal for a fee of £12m.

However, it is fair to say that in the intervening two-year period, the Englishman has failed to win a regular starting berth in the north-west giants’ midfield, with it expected that City will now offload the 23-year-old come the summer.
