Bertrand joined Villa during the January transfer window and has been impressing during his short stint in the West Midlands.

Reports have suggested that Villa boss Paul Lambert would be keen on keeping the 24-year-old on a permanent basis beyond the end of the season, but Mourinho has moved to quell the talk of him leaving by insisting that he may still have a future at the west London club.

“He has a future at Chelsea,” said Mourinho.

“A future and a past. Of course he has a future.

“The decision to let him go to Villa was good because he’s playing and what he needed was to play every game.

“But maybe next season he is with us.”

Villa will be without the former England under-21’s services this weekend when the two sides clash at Villa Park as he is not allowed to appear against his parent club due to the terms of his loan agreement.
