Real Madrid have identified Man United keeper David de Gea as a top summer transfer target according to Football Direct News.

The Spanish giants have been linked with interest in Spanish custodian de Gea for some time and look set to take advantage of the fact that his Old Trafford side are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League as a motivating factor in their push to lure the former Atletico Madrid man back to the Spanish capital.

Bernabeu boss Carlo Ancelotti has been using Diego Lopez as his first choice starter and has frozen Iker Casillas out of his starting eleven but will look to the 23 year old Man United to be his new number one.

Real Madrid had initially targeted Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, who has been in excellent form during three season long loan spells at Atletico Madrid, but were put off by the West London side’s £25m price-tag.

De Gea initially struggled at Man United, making several high profile errors, but has been in fine form over the past 18 months and is now the club’s undisputed number one.
