Gunners boss Arsene Wenger reportedly sent chief scout Steve Rowley to watch the Freiburg centre half in Bundesliga action this weekend and the North London giants are ready to make a summer move for the £8m-rated starlet.

The 6ft 3in youngster made his Germany debut against Chile and is likely to be part of Joachim Loew’s World Cup squad as cover for Arsenal’s own Per Mertesacker.

Ginter would likely provide cover for first choice pairing Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny – who have both been superb this season – at Arsenal but, with club captain Thomas Vermaelen set to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer, there should be plenty of opportunities for Ginter, who can also operate at defensive midfield.

Manchester United have also been linked with the Freiburg star but Arsenal’s large contingent of German stars are likely to give them the edge over the Champions.
