The North London club have sent chief negotiator Dicky Law to Madrid to finalise a deal for the 21-year-old Spanish striker, who wants to leave the Santiago Berbabeu in the summer in search of first team football.

Morta was linked with a loan move to Arsenal in January, while Tottenham, Manchester United and Everton are also thought to be interested in the youngster.

But it appears to Gunners have pipped their Premier League rivals to the powerful striker’s signature and the club expect him to be an Arsenal player before the start of June.

Morata caught the eye of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger at last summer’s under-21 European Championship and the Fenchman has since sent his scouts to watch the Real youngster.

Morata is highly-regarded by Los Blancos chiefs but he has struggled for game-time under Carlo Ancelotti, starting just one La Liga match all season.

While the Spanish under-21 international will have expected to be behind Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema in Ancelotti’s first team set-up, he has also slipped behind fellow youngster Jese Rodriguez this term.

The Gunners are in need of striking reinforcements, with Wenger all but confirming that Nicklas Bendtner will not be offered a new contact at the end of the season after his drunken antics in Copenhagen.
