Man United boss David Moyes is considering a free transfer move for Man City defender Joleon Lescott according to the Daily Star.

The 31 year old cost the Etihad Stadium £24m but will leave for nothing when his contract expires in the summer and Moyes is ready to reunite with his former Everton charge.

Moyes will see Nemanja Vidic leave for Inter Milan in the summer and 35 year old veteran Rio Ferdinand isn’t likely to be handed a new contract when his deal expires at the end of the season so a move for a centre back makes sense though one imagines the Old Trafford faithful will not be all that pleased with a move for an ageing Man City reject.

Manuel Pellegrini has little use for Lescott and will look to bring in an alternative option to partner with skipper Vincent Kompany with neither Martin Demichelis or Matija Nastastic being particularly impressive in the role.

Man United have also set their sights on Primeira Liga pair Ezequiel Garay and Eliaquim Mangala, who would be seen as more suitable targets by a fan-base that must already be asking questions about Moyes’s ability to lead the club.
