Newly appointed Zenit St Petersburg boss Andre Villas-Boas has set his sights on Tottenham midfielder Paulinho according to Football Direct News.

The former Tottenham manager hopes to make the Brazilian international his first signing in charge of Zenit though the 25 year old has also been linked with apparent interest from both Real Madrid and AS Roma.

Paulinho started his first season at White Hart Lane well enough but was not included in Tim Sherwood’s starting eleven for recent crunch fixtures against Chelsea and Arsenal, leading to speculation about his future at the North London club.

Villas-Boas brought Paulinho to the Premier League before he was axed by Tottenham last December.

Tottenham paid Corinthians £17m for Paulinho last summer and he has gone on to make 31 appearances for the club, scoring six goals in the process.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy may be forced to consider the sales of some of his top performers in order to balance the books with a Champions League berth for next term looking increasingly unlikely.
