Chelsea are readying an offer they hope will tempt Atletico Madrid into selling top-scorer Diego Costa.

Football Direct News claim that Jose Mourinho will offer the Vicente Calderon side their former striker Fernando Torres as part of a player plus cash deal that may just succeed.

Atletico Madrid are well known for selling their top talents and Diego Simeone knows that the club’s fan-base will not be happy with the sale of Brazilian born Spanish international Costa, who has scored 22 La Liga goals this term, but a move that would see former favourite Torres return could help appease the fans.

Torres scored 82 goals for Atletico before moving to Liverpool before completing a £50m move to Stamford Bridge, a move that hasn’t proved a success.

Costa is said to have a release clause set at £32m and Chelsea are ready to offer Torres and £12m in cash in return for the in-form forward.

A move to Atletico Madrid would see Torres reunited with his former Spanish national team strike partner David Villa, the pair at one point being one of the most feared duo in world football.
