The 36-year-old former Chelsea and Tottenham boss signs a two-year and will be presented to media on Wednesday.

After leading Tottenham to a record Premier League points haul in his first season, AVB was sacked by the North London outfit in December after an inconsistent start to the season culminated in a 5-0 home defeat to Liverpool.

He also struggled at Chelsea and was dismissed after just nine months, amid rumours he had alienated the senior playing staff at Stamford Bridge.

But the Portuguese built his reputation at Porto, where he went the entire season unbeaten and won a domestic double as well as the Europa League, becoming the youngster manager in history to win a continental trophy.

He will be reunited with former Porto star Hulk at Zenit.

Strangely, his appointment comes the day after former Zenit boss Luciano Spalletti was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer.
