The Merseysiders have been keeping close tabs on the Brazil-born striker for some time now, with the club having even sent scouts over to the Portuguese capital in order to watch the player in action first hand.

Meanwhile, the Reds were also in attendance at White Hart Lane last Thursday as Benfica overcame Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in the first leg of their Uefa Europa League round-of-16 clash in which Rodrigo opened the scoring in the first half with a well-taken finish.

And now it is understood that Liverpool head coach Brendan Rodgers is lining up a massive bid for the 23-year-old for when the summer transfer window does finally open again for business on the back of the former Spain Under-23 international’s impressive campaign.

Rodrigo, who spent a season-long loan with Bolton Wanderers in the Premier League in 2010-11, has managed to register an impressive 12 goals and two assists to date in just 27 matches in all competitions for the Portuguese giants.
